It’s easy to find ourselves so caught up with our relationships with people-- with siblings, with parents, with friends, with a rishta, with a significant other, with the public, with colleagues, with coworkers and heck sometimes even complete strangers. We spend so much of our time and effort on these worldly relationships that sometimes it becomes easy to lose focus or subconsciously prioritize less the one relationship that needs the most attention: the relationship with Allah swt. Don’t get me wrong, relationships with people are important, but we have to keep in mind that our core relationship is with Allah swt. Everything stems off of that. Let’s take “love for the sake of Allah swt” for example and reflect for a minute. How can we expect to claim to truly love for the sake of Allah swt when we haven’t even built upon that love for Him. When we haven’t even worked toward forming that bond. Just like any relationship, we have to put effort into it for it to grow.
However, the relationship with Allah swt is a special case. In Hadith Qudsi, Allah swt Himself says: “If he takes one step toward Me, I will take 10 steps toward him. And if he comes to Me walking, I go to him running.” Subhan’Allah. Unlike other relationships where you have to deal with all the nakhre (antics), Allah swt has made it so easy for us to form a relationship with Him because He knows us humans can get distracted. The very fact that He made it so simple means He wants us to come closer to Him and He is waiting for us. Can you imagine Allah swt waiting for us? Like dang that’s lit. We just have to at least do the bare minimum and continue taking that little step. Remember, our Imaan will always go up and down; it is never stagnant so don’t get discouraged if you missed 2,3 maybe even 100 prayers. Or you feel like the greatest sinner on earth. Just get right back up again and continue praying. Hold fast to prayer even if you feel like your feet are touching hell. I promise you, Allah swt is still hearing your call. Allah swt says in the Quran (2:186): “I am near to answer the call of the caller.” He didn’t say the believer, the righteous, the pious, the TJ, the mulla, the guaranteed Jannah dweller, etc. He simply said the caller. That is all of us at any level of faith. Subhan’Allah, how awesome is He amirite.
Another way we can take that little step is just simply remembering Him as we go about our day. There are 24 hours and 12 of them we are asleep. Okay fine I sleep 12 hours and yall sleep like 2, but the point is the rest of the hours are filled up with eating, studying, socializing, scrolling through social media for hours only to close it and open it up again 5 sec later. Trust me I know. BUT I challenge you (including myself) to take just 5-10 min of the day outside of prayer to just sit down and solely reflect on the blessings of Allah swt; maybe even talk to Him exactly the way you would to a friend. I’m being serious just try it. 5-10 min of undivided attention. You and Allah swt. No one else. Not only will you find your love for Allah swt growing substantially stronger, but the beauty of when we work on our relationship with Allah swt is that He will automatically make the worldly relationships easy too and you will find yourself tasting the fruit of what it truly means to love for the sake of Allah swt. After all, He is the One who is the controller of the hearts. It’s like a package deal. If you have Allah, you have everything you need. So Insha’Allah, may Allah swt make it easy for us to work on building a relationship with Him and give us the guidance to not lose hope in His mercy no matter what.
Disclaimer: I am human, I can make mistakes. Everything good is through Allah swt and everything bad is due to my shortcomings. Please forgive me. PEACE.
