"Kindness is a mark of faith, and whoever is not kind has no faith."
-Prophet Muhammad (S)
Our beloved Prophet of Allah (S) embodied the essence of kindness in his every action. His kindness was so sincere that it is mentioned in the Quran,
"O Messenger of Allah! It is a great Mercy of God that you are gentle and kind towards them; for, had you been harsh and hard-hearted, they would all have broken away from you"
-(3:159)
He was a man who showered his love on everyone regardless of social status, beliefs, color, or nationality. He had the utmost compassion and felt pain and distress when others were going through troubled times.
We all know the famous story of the old woman who had a habit of throwing trash at the Prophet (S). She would do this every day and Prophet Muhammad (S) would never once show any sign of anger or hatred towards her. Instead he would just calmly continue to walk towards his destination. One day, though, she was not there and instead of making joy the Prophet (S) became concerned. He immediately asked neighbors about her well being. When he found out she was ill, the Prophet (S) asked if he could visit her. Once inside, the old woman was frightened. She thought this was his chance to finally take revenge on all she had put him through. However to her amazement, she quickly realized he came to care for her during this time of need.
SubhanAllah, this story is one the greatest examples on what it means to be genuinely kind. If we were in the same situation how many of us would have visited her?
Insha'Allah this week, let us all strive to be kind to everyone regardless of whom or what the situation may be.
