Save your Brother and Yourself
On the authority of Abu Sa’id al-Khudri, radiyallahu ‘anhu, who said” “I heard the Messenger of Allah, sallallahu ‘alayhi wasallam, say:
“When any one of you sees anything that is disapproved (of by Allah), let him change it with his hand. If he is not able to do so, then let him change it with his tongue. And if he is not able to do so, then let him change it with his heart, though that is the weakest (kind of faith).”
If you see your brothers doing something wrong and you don’t take any of these three actions to help them find the right way or to save them from the punishment of Allah, then you are not a true brother. Just imagine how corrupt society would be if no one corrected anyone. There is a story and a hadith about the people of Bani Israel, and about this righteous man. The Prophet (pbuh) sent down angels to destroy a town and the angel said to the Prophet (pbuh), “There is a righteous man that lives in this town, should we destroy him to?” The Prophet (phuh) said, “Start with him, because he used to see the wrong and didn’t do anything about it.” So, this righteous man did not try to change anything wrong he had seen. He basically didn’t care and look at what happened to him. Now, when it comes to the actions you should take, you don’t use the hand, unless you have authority. You can use your tongue through speeches and so on if there is no harm on you, and the least anyone could do and no one should stop doing is to hate the wrong with the heart.
