Qada Wal Qadr
We naturally have expectations, pictures in our heads of how it all should be. We have also suffered deep disappointments after experiencing the ripping apart of these photographs when our expectations do not unravel. Such times are when one reflects, when one realizes that they, indeed, are not the ones in control of their ultimate destiny.
Rasul Allah (sal Allahu alaihi wa sallam) said: “Bear in mind that if all the people combined together to grant you some benefit, they would not be able to do it unless Allah has determined it for you. And that if all of them combined together to do you harm, they would not be able to do it unless Allah has determined it for you. The pens have been set aside and writings of the Book of Fate have become dry.” [Tirmidhi]
We can emulate Prophet Muhammad (may peace and blessings be upon him) by not fearing anyone except Allah (swt). When the teachings of Salat had been bestowed, the first Muslims had been praying outside in the open, in front of the Meccan pagans. This obviously angered the pagans, who then decided to pelt the Muslims with stones during their Salah. The Muslims had known this would occur, but they were not afraid of the pagans, for they felt secure in conversation with their Lord.
What is going to happen, will happen; we can try our hardest towards our goals, and will be rewarded for our struggles, but the end result is up to Allah (swt). Our matters have already been decreed. Whatever difficulty is instilled upon us, is the will of Allah (SWT) and as long as we remain patient, we will be rewarded immensely in the Hereafter, the true reality. As Muslims, we should not fear any other except our Lord; it is from Him that we have been given what we have, and will experience what we shall.
When things aren’t going as we expected, we must remind ourselves of this Hadith, that our experiences are from the will of Allah (SWT), the Disposer of Affairs. We are solely His creatures, and are subject to His decree. Whatever happens is always for the better, even though it may not seem like it in the beginning!
As students, we should always keep our purpose in mind; whatever challenge we are being faced with, whether it be grades or time management, we should always remember that they have been decreed for us already. These challenges are only for our benefit, and should bring us closer to Allah (swt), When we come to realize that our matters have been settled already by The Disposer of Affairs, we will find success.
Allah Alone is sufficient for us, and He is the Best Disposer of our affairs. {Qur’an 3:173]
