As students it is always easy to talk ourselves out of going the extra mile because of how busy we are. During the week of an exam we see anything that seems like a little work as taking away time from studying. What we don't realize is, it is not the number of things we do that matter, or the amount of time we spend doing them, but rather that we remain consistent in what we do. It is said in a hadith, “the most beloved of deeds to Allah(saw) are the ones that are consistent even if they are few.”
The importance consistency holds in Islam is due to the dangerousness of randomness. When being continuously random with our actions, we risk the chance of being held accountable for having the ability to complete the action but not doing so, and we seek refuge from Allah (swt) that such an action may be used against us on the Day of Judgment. (Shaykh Husain Abdul Sattar)
Consistency leads to the idea of building on top of our actions, whether it be increasing from reading one ayah a day to three a day. It is the process of progressing in the deen through little steps. No matter how small an action, never underestimate the reward it holds when being consistent.
On the authority of ‘Aaisha (radiaAllahu ‘anha), the Prophet (S) said: “Upon you is that which you have the ability to do. By Allah, Allah will never become bored, and will thus continue to reward you until you yourself become bored with doing good deeds. Verily, the most beloved Deed to Allah is that which an individual is the most consistent upon.”

This week, let us begin just ONE good deed, strive to be as consistent with it as possible, and pray to reap the highest of rewards for it in the Hereafter, for the most beloved actions to Allah (swt) are, after all, those that are most consistent. May Allah (swt) make us among those who are most consistent with their actions.
