In light of Islam Awareness Week, the Sunnah-in-Action for this week is Dawah or Invitation. The Arabic word Dawah in Islam literally means “inviting in the way of submission and surrender to Allah (swt).”
In the Quran, Allah (swt) tells us:
In the Quran, Allah (swt) tells us:
“Invite to the way of your lord with wisdom and fair preaching, and argue with them in a way that is better. Truly, your lord knows best who has gone astray from his path, and He is the best aware of those who are guided,” (Quran, An-Nahl: 125).
The above ayah mentions three things: wisdom, fair preaching, and the etiquette of arguing. Wisdom comes with knowledge, in order to do this we must first study the teaches of the Quran and Sunnah. Fair preaching refers to how before preaching to others, we must first be practicing or applying those beliefs in our own lives. And lastly, there is an appropriate manner in which we argue. We cannot just argue for the sake of disagreeing. Instead, we must be sincere and avoid any hint of arrogance or ignorance.
The Prophet (S) once said said:
“Whoever directs (somebody) towards a good deed will receive the like of the reward granted to that person for practicing that deed.” (Sahih Muslim)
SubhanAllah, we are unable to fully comprehend the reward we attain for spreading the message and do not realize how important it truly is. However, it is imperative to remember that the purpose of Dawah is not to convert, but rather to invite and share the beauty of Islam.
Alhamdulilah, this week we have been given the platform to spread awareness of our deen to our very own Loyola/Chicago community.
